Welcome, Chili Pepper Lover! Ah, July. Beautiful sun, fun trips to the lake, and chili peppers! We're so happy that our chili pepper plants are producing all sorts of delicious peppers for us already. We have poblanos, Anaheims, jalapenos, serranos and more practically leaping off the plants, and we're cooking them into all sorts of fun and interesting recipes.

This year at Chili Pepper Madness, we've planted a number of Anaheim plants and we're already drooling at the possible recipes. Have you planted Anaheim peppers this year? See below for the reasons you might consider planting this versatile pepper. We've also whipped up a couple of recipes focusing on the Anaheim, listed below. Anaheim Pepper A mild, medium sized chili pepper that grows to 6-10 inches, often used when green, though it can be used when red. The basic variety ripens to a dark green/reddish color, but other strains ripen to full red. They are one of the most common chilis in the United States and are used in many foods and recipes. Red varieties can be strung together and dried to make ristras. |
New Recipe! We're always working up new chili pepper recipes! Here are some of the latest. Grilled Scallops and Anaheim Pepper Skewers/Kabobs
What a fun combination! We love scallops on the grill, but on kabobs, they are so much fun. The trick is to find complimentary foods to grill them with that not only provide satisfying flavors, but allow for a colorful presentation as well. In this recipe, we chose potatoes seasoned with chili powder for their distinctive color and flavor, along with the mild Anaheim pepper. The results were delicious. Mike's Mighty Meat Sauce with Chili Peppers
A new favorite! We created this recipe after an overabundance of Anaheim and serrano peppers were pulled from our garden. We would have included a LARGE poblano pepper in this recipe, but we only had a small poblano available. Alas, but you can certainly include a larger poblano. Let this simmer at least 30 minutes, preferably an hour or more to allow the sausage flavor to permeate the sauce.

We know because we just had some sauce made with ghost peppers at our local rib fest this weekend, and it was quite hot but delicious. But in Jello shots? We're game!
