A recipe for spicy chocolate chip cookies made with pudding mix and spiced up with chocolate habanero powder.

Talk about fun.

Patty had a gathering in the neighborhood with a number of her girlfriends for a cookie night. It wasn’t so much an exchange, but more an excuse to get together, have a few cocktails, socialize, and eat cookies. All of our friends know how much we enjoy spicy food, so this was an opportunity to play with cookies.

Spicy cookies, you might ask? Absolutely.

Chocolate and spice always pair well. I like to put a bit of chocolate or cocoa into certain chili recipes, and there are a number of chocolate bars on the market that incorporate chili powders. The key is finding the proper spice level.

We had recently received a fun little cookbook called “Treats for my Sweet: Desserts Made withLove…for Love”. We found this particular recipe in the cookie section, though it has been adapted to our personal preferences.

All we did was add in the chocolate habanero powder for a nice level of heat, and swapped in 1/2 cup of coconut oil instead of 1/2 cup of butter. Another food that pairs nicely with chocolate is coconut.

These cookies turned out GREAT!

The chocolate habanero powder probably won’t be easy to come by. I make my own powders at the end of the growing season, but you can always try cayenne powder or more traditional chili powder. For more information – How to Dehydrate Your Own Chili Peppers and Make Your Own Chili Powders.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3.4 ounce package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate habanero powder
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Cream together butter, coconut oil, sugar, brown sugar, and pudding mix.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, chocolate habanero powder and baking soda. Stir into creamed batter.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Cool and serve!
