Cajun Candied Bacon
This Cajun candied bacon recipe is the easiest way to make candied bacon fast, with a nice and spicy twist.
Patty recently made some candied bacon to go with her Thirsty Thirteenth drink recipe, the Smoky Whiskey Mule. She used candied bacon to infuse whiskey and also garnished with a big slice of candied bacon.
Wow!
As we were making it, we of course had to sample the bacon and it was so good. Beyond good. Good enough to turn it into its own post. We’ve made this in the past for different reasons, though I never thought to call it “candied bacon”. The name makes sense, of course.
“Candying” refers to preserving something with a sugar syrup, and that is essentially what candied bacon, or “bacon candy” is.
You can use maple syrup as well, though we’ve really simplified our recipe to include only brown sugar and some form of spicy powder, in this case Cajun seasonings.
The result is sweet, though not overly sweet. You still get that bacon awesomeness. For the powder, feel free to mix up your options here. If you have a favorite chili powder blend, go for it.
Ghost pepper powder works wonders, and is probably my favorite to use, next to Moruga Scorpion powder. Oh baby! Though admittedly probably too hot for most. The Cajun gives just a hint of spice.
Patty’s Perspective
OMG! Thiswas sooo good. If you want that heat, though, Cajun just comes through because of the sugar. You might try something spicier, as Mike suggests, if you’re looking for that extra kick. Everyone must try candied bacon! It is out of this world.
