My baked salmon recipe uses a blend of Cajun seasonings then serves them up with melted butter and fresh lemon. Highly flavorful and easy to prepare.

Baked salmon, baby. You already know we LOVE salmon around here. What can I say? It’s one of our very favorite fish! I typically purchase a large 3 pound cut, slice it into serving sizes, then freeze them. We probably eat salmon once a week.

Salmon is super easy to work with, cooks up evenly, and stands up to a lot of flavor profiles, especially spicy chili peppers or Cajun seasoning blends.

So! That is the direction I’ve gone, a painfully easy baked salmon recipe dusted with a Cajun blend, then finished off with a mixture of butter and lemon juice. This is Cajun salmon at it’s best, and easiest!

Truly, it is a highly flavorful combo. I keep using the word “easy” because it is. Flat out. Just get the oven going, season up the salmon fillets, bake, then top them off with the lemon butter and parsley.

Easy peasy!

Let’s talk about how we make this amazing baked salmon, shall we?

Baked Salmon Cajun Lemon Butter, ready to serve

Ingredients Needed

  • 2 6-ounce salmon fillets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon minced parsley

How to Make Mike’s Cajun Baked Salmon with Cajun Lemon Butter – the Recipe Method

  1. First, heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Brush salmon with olive oil then season with half the Cajun seasonings, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Get both sides. Minced garlic is a nice addition here, too.
  3. Set into a baking dish and bake 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through to your liking. Cooking times can vary a bit, depending on your oven and how done you like your salmon.
  4. When salmon is nearly done, melt butter in a small pan and swirl in lemon juice and the remaining Cajun seasonings.
  5. Set salmon onto serving plates, top with butter and parsley or other fresh herbs, and maybe some lemon slices.
  6. Serve!

BOOM! Easy enough, isn’t it? I love a quick and easy recipe that has a nice level of spice to it.

Recipe Tips & Notes

  • Quick and Easy. You could probably have your meal ready in 20 minutes. Maybe you can use it on “Chopped” for the appetizer round. I could never win that show. I take way too long in the kitchen. I digress…
  • Go Easy on the Butter. Obviously we were going for a lower calorie dish. Just don’t go CRAZY with the butter. However, you can serve up salmon with any number of side dishes. Like I said, salmon goes with so many things.
  • Seasoning Options. I’ve used my favorite homemade Cajun seasoning blend for this recipe, but you can use other seasoning blends that you prefer with great results. Some suggestions include Creole seasoning, blackening seasoning, or Old Bay seasoning for a similar treatment. Want to get crazy? Try it with Jamaican Jerk seasoning. Yeah!
  • Cooking Temperatures for Salmon. I prefer a bit of pink when I cook salmon, so I cook them to an internal temperature of 145 degrees F (62.8 degrees C) when measured with a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the salmon. This is the USDA recommended safe minimum temperature for fish. You can cook it through more as desired, but be careful not to overcook, or the salmon can dry out. Again, your overall baking time can vary, so it is best to go by temperature, not time.

    My fish turned out darker than yours, maybe because of the spices I used, but delicious. I served it with potato wedges and steamed broccoli. My belly was warm and happy all night. I made your recipe for the Cajun seasoning – I will review that next.
