Easy Spicy Edamame Recipe

Spicy edamame with garlic, chili paste or sriracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger is the perfect snack or appetizer, easy to make boiled or steamed.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag frozen edamame 16 ounces, not shelled - raw can be used - see NOTES
  • 1 tablespoon sambal oelek
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for extra spicy
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add edamame and cook 3–4 minutes, until heated through and bright green. Alternatively, microwave in a bowl for 3 minutes or steam. Drain.
  • Heat sesame oil in a small pan over medium. Add garlic and ginger and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in soy sauce, mirin, red pepper flakes (if using), and salt.
  • Toss in warm edamame and mix well. Serve immediately.

Notes

If using raw edamame, boil or steam the edamame a bit longer, 5-7 minutes, or until tender but still firm.
