Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika smoked paprika is great
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to heat preference
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Mix all of the seasonings together in a small bowl.
  • Store in a glass container or spice jar in a cool, dark place.
  • When ready to use, mix 1.5-2 tablespoons beef stew seasoning with OPTIONAL 2.5 tablespoons all purpose flour per pound of stew meat in a large bowl or baggie. Add chopped stew meat and toss to thoroughly coat the meat. Then, proceed with your beef stew recipe.

Notes

  • Makes about 8 tablespoons, enough to season a 4-5 pounds of stew meat. Use 1.5-2 tablespoons per pound of stew meat, though you can use more if you prefer bolder flavor.
  • Lasts 6 months stored in an airtight container.
  • Flour is used to developing a rich, velvety gravy-like sauce for your stew, making it so much more luxurious. It also helps when searing the meat, which is an important flavor-building step, though some cooks prefer to skip flour when searing, as it can prevent proper browning if not done correction. You can always mix the flour with water to form a slurry to add in later, which will also help thicken the stew.
