Homemade Beef Stew Seasoning Recipe
Looking for your new go-to Beef Stew Seasoning blend? Something you can keep in your pantry as a time saver? This is it, my friends.
This blend is ready to bring your next beef stew to a whole new level, one you'll want to keep on hand at all times.
What You'll Love About This Recipe
- My recipe includes lots of vibrant spices with a focus on the big flavors you love and just the right amount of piquancy, though you can easily adjust the spiciness to your own palate.
- It excludes the flour used by most recipes to maintain the freshness of the spices. You can easily add flour later when you're ready to cook. Your choice!
- It's versatile! While it's perfect for making beef stew, you can use this to spice up so many other dishes, like grilled meats, veggies, and more.

How to Make Beef Stew Seasoning - the Recipe Method
Combine the Spices. Mix all of the seasonings together in a small bowl until well blended.

Store the Seasoning. Transfer the beef stew seasoning mix into an airtight glass container or spice jar. Store in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness.
Prepare the Stew Meat. When you're ready to make stew, mix 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of the beef stew seasoning with 2.5 tablespoons of all-purpose flour (if desired) per pound of stew meat in a large bowl or resealable plastic bag.
Coat the Meat. Add the chopped stew meat to the bowl or bag and toss to evenly coat each piece with the spice blend.

Get Cooking! Follow your preferred beef stew recipe, cooking the seasoned meat as directed. Great for any prep, including slow cooker (crock pot), Dutch oven, or pressure cooker (Instant Pot) beef stew.
Boom! Done! Your beef stew seasoning is ready to go. Let's make some flavorful beef stew! I'm getting hungry.

Recipe Tips & Notes
- You can easily double or triple the seasoning recipe and store it for future use, saving time on meal prep.
- When prepping your beef stew, let the seasoned meat rest for 30 minutes before cooking to enhance the depth of flavor.
- Flour is used to developing a rich, velvety gravy-like sauce for your stew. It also helps when searing the meat, which is an important flavor-building step, though some cooks prefer to skip flour when searing, as it can prevent proper browning if not done correctly. You can always mix the flour with water to form a slurry to add in later, which will also help thicken the stew.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend if desired.
Uses for Beef Stew Seasoning
This beef stew spice mix is perfect for making classic beef stew, of course, but it's also great for spicing up anything on the grill, like flank steak, pork chops, chicken breasts, or fresh vegetables.
Try it to add some great flavor and zest to your next pot of soup.
Storage
Store your beef stew seasoning in a sealed airtight container in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or spice cabinet. It will last 6 months this way.
It will begin to lose potency after 6 months, so it is best to make batch sizes you will use within that time.
That's it, my friends. I hope you enjoy my seasoning for beef stew. Let me know if you make it. I'd love to hear how it turned out for you, and if you decided to spice it up!

Hi Mike, Patty,
I’ve been busy today making various seasonings and spice blends, this being one of them.
As soon as I smelled the celery seeds I thought beef! The aroma reminds me of the wonderful German dishes that my German friend cooks…he has a Lovage plant outside and the leaves have a very similar taste to Celery seeds.
I give this blend a genuine 5* although I have yet to try it in a stew!
I can however sing its praises as a beef burger seasoning. I used 2tsp in half a pound of minced steak (20% fat).
I used Smoked Paprika, very nice touch and added a tsp dried Epazote to the blend. I may increase the Cayenne a little. Very much looking forward to trying it in a stew or braise.
Cheers,
Paul:-)
