Try it once and you’ll forever crave this recipe with shrimp cooked in a silky, tangy sauce made with chipotles in adobo, bourbon, butter and garlic.

We’re cooking with LA MORENA® today in the Chili Pepper Madness kitchen, my friends, a trusted brand that has been a leader in the chili pepper world for over 45 years. When you’re cooking with LA MORENA®, you know you’re cooking with top quality traditional flavors. Rediscover more flavors and recipes with La Morena®.

I greatly enjoy cooking with traditional flavors that I did not have growing up. My mother did all of the cooking and none of her recipes involved jalapeno peppers or chipotles or chipotle sauce. It took striking out on my own to discover ingredients like these, and I encourage you to discover them on your own.

When I began learning to cook, I was timid at first, experimenting with simple ingredients, moving away from the bland dishes I mostly knew, working toward a world of spices and seasonings and ethnic flavors. The world opened up to me, became sort of a gateway to introducing other cultures and what they have to offer.

Cooking and food are great like that, you know? Which is why I’m working today with LA MORENA®.

I picked up a couple different LA MORENA® products to cook with at my local Jewel-Osco. Here’s a shot to help you find them.

LA MORENA® is PERFECT for us here at Chili Pepper Madness, and they will be for you, too. If you haven’t already cooked with LA MORENA® products, it’s time you discovered them, and if it’s been awhile, it’s time for some rediscovery.

Today, I’m all about experimenting with one of my favorite LA MORENA® products – Chipotle Peppers in Adobo. It’s going to form the base of my sauce for this recipe - Shrimp with Chipotle-Bourbon Butter Sauce.

Yes!

Shrimp is HUGE in our home. It is super simple to cook, as it cooks up quickly no matter what technique you’re using, and the shrimp absorbs all those flavors you’re working with. This is a GOOD thing, because we’re working with GREAT flavors!

We’re talking LA MORENA® Chipotles in Adobo, your favorite bourbon, honey, butter and garlic. Only 5 ingredients. Easy enough, right? Here is a shot of what you’ll need to get cooking.

Shrimp with Chipotle-Bourbon Butter Sauce – Recipe

To make this wonderful dish, you’ll start out by adding the LA MORENA® Chipotles in Adobo and fresh garlic to a food processor and processing it until it is nice and smooth.

Next, heat a medium sized pan and melt your butter over medium heat, then add in the chipotle-garlic sauce along with the bourbon and honey. Give it all a quick stir and let it simmer about 15 minutes to let the flavors start to meld.

You can smell the tang and the zing in the sauce as it simmers, so apologies if it drives you a bit wild.

NOT!

Finally, stir in your shrimp and let them simmer in the sauce for 10-15 minutes, checking on them around 9 minutes or so to see how done they are. They should be cooked through and have a bit of snap to them. The shrimp will absorb all that wonderful, tangy, slightly spicy sauce and believe me when I say you’ll find yourself wanting this dish again in the very near future once you give it a taste.

SO GOOD! I'm already craving more...

This is a very easy recipe, and it cooked up nicely. There is a fair amount of heat, however, and it needs to be paired with something to counter the heat without messing with the flavors. It definitely needs a starch, and rice goes well with this dish. There's a lot of sauce with the shrimp to mix with the rice. Just by chance, since we did a green salad, we discovered that fresh greens have a soothing effect on the chipotle, too. Next time, I'm going to add a spring mix with baby spinach and arugula in the bowl with the rice and shrimp so every thing is in one place. Oh, and bourbon over ice in a glass pairs well with this dish!

The sauce would be good with scallops.

In the end, it may be too spicy for me. But it looks too good not to try! Never had shrimp with bourbon and it sounds like a good match.
