The Apollo Pepper is a superhot chili pepper created by Ed Currie of Puckerbutt Pepper Company by crossing a Carolina Reaper with the Pepper X.
What is the Apollo Pepper?
There's a new superhot chili pepper in town. Ed Currie of Puckerbutt Pepper Company has done it again by crossing the Guinness World Record holding official hottest pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper, with another superhot chili, Pepper X.
The result is called the Apollo Pepper, and as expected, it is blisteringly hot. It is notable that Mr. Currie is the creator of both the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X, and while little is currently known about this new pepper, we do know that packs some serious heat.
How Hot is the Apollo Pepper? (Apollo Pepper Scoville Rating)
The Apollo Pepper is reported to measure between 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale, putting it on par with the Pepper X. At the high end, this makes it roughly 600 times hotter than an average jalapeno pepper.
The only information available at this time comes from a hot sauce made with the Apollo Pepper called The Last Dab: Apollo by Heatonist. The hot sauce offers more concentrated heat than their previous superhot hot sauces, made with a combination of fresh peppers and dried peppers, distilled chili oil (how essential oils are made by using co2 extraction), and very little vinegar.
We're talking pure, unadulterated heat in hot sauce form, surely not for the faint of heart. If you love spicy food and hot peppers, this is one you need to try.
I have seen no official testing information, but will update this page as new information arrives.
Is the Apollo Pepper Hotter than the Ghost Pepper?
Yes, the Apollo pepper is roughly 3 times hotter than the ghost pepper. Ghost peppers measure in at about 1 Million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Apollo pepper reportedly measures in at about 3 Million SHU.
Is the Apollo Pepper Hotter than the Carolina Reaper?
Yes, the Apollo pepper is roughly 1.4 times hotter than the Carolina Reaper. The Carolina Reaper measures in at about 2.2 Million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Apollo pepper reportedly measures in at about 3 Million SHU.

I'd love to hear what you think of the hot sauce!
Got any questions? Ask away! I'd love to hear about your experience with this pepper or the hot sauce. Is it the hottest sauce in the world?
Allison Hayes says
According to my brother-in-law and nephew who just tried a small dab about 20 mins ago it is the hottest thing they have ever done. They love spicy hot stuff. After eating several popsicles and a few cups of milk they both say it seems to keep getting hotter. It's crazy we got the bottle from a food pantry!! It's a great pepper challenge.

Thanks for sharing this!

Y’all know there’s a much weaker pepper called The Apollo. Like 3k-5k Scoville units. It’s a slim, long pepper with a yellowish coloring. Did Mr. Currie perhaps reuse an existing name for his new masterpiece?

I love this sauce. It has a smokey flavor to it. I use it like a steak sauce. Grill up a Tri-tip and dip it in a nice big puddle of The Last Dab.
Stan says
Can you buy seeds for the Apollo pepper?

Stan, it doesn't look like they will be for sale anytime soon.

Sheri says
So Mike.....I mean what does that do for flavor? 1.4 times hotter than a reaper???
....do your taste buds recognize anything other than OUCH!!
I LOVE your recipes...and I mean ALL of them....but I might have to chicken out on this one.
Mike Hultquist says
Sheri, yes, it is VERY hot. I don't think many people would enjoy this one. It's something you need to build up to. I tried it with a few of my friends who enjoy VERY hot foods/sauces, and we all actually enjoyed the sauce, more for the heat than anything.
Jérémie says
Pepper X seeds cannot be bought 🙁 but do you think we could buy Apollo pepper seeds soon?
Mike Hultquist says
I haven't heard anything about it, Jérémie. I did email Ed Currie, but didn't hear back. I'll definitely post more info as I receive it.
Jérémie says
Thanks my chilipepperhead friend, I guess you are as eager as I am 😉
Mike Hultquist says
Yes sir!
Kevin says
Ok Mike what’s the hottest pepper that you’ve ever tried? I like to grow my own and haven’t found the courage to go past the orange habanero. I enjoy reading your daily articles.
Thank you and take care.
Mike Hultquist says
Kevin, I've tried many of the superhots, including the Carolina Reaper, scorpions, 7 pots, etc, and they're all crazy hot! It's hard for me to tell with just my tongue, LOL.
